We know that the "Dakar", which was to start this year from Lisbon, has been canceled for security reasons, but its organiser, Etienne Lavigne, has just announced the creation of the first "Dakar Series" satellite rally, which will take place from April 20 to 26 in Hungary and Romania.
The start will be given from Budapest! 2972 km off-road to cover from the Hungarian capital to the Romanian Carpathians and back to Lake Balaton. Half, 1542 km, will take place in “very technical” specials of 110 to 290 km per day. Thus the competitors of the Dakar will not lose their investment. The beauty of the landscapes crossed and their diversity will allow participants not to miss the infinite grandeur of the Saharan dunes and the opulence of the oases.
Competitors of the canceled Dakar will have priority for registration, and will only pay the administration fee, 300€. As for the other competitors, they can pay the registration fees since February 11, €3,000 for a motorcycle, €5,000 for a car and €7,000 for a truck. More information on the event website.
The "Dakar series" has a bright future ahead of it! Indeed, the Central Europe Rally will be the first event placed under the "Dakar Series" label, which will subsequently be awarded to other races offering quality participation and the same high standards of organization, safety and media coverage than the mythical Dakar according to Amaury Sport, organizer of the event. The "Dakar Series" is a project that the organizer has been working on for a long time and whose launch was planned for 2009. The cancellation of the Dakar has obviously upset this schedule...
