At the start of this fourth round of the 2012 French Rally Championship, Tony Cosson was keen to achieve a significant result. Unfortunately for the Tourangeau driver, a puncture on SS9 relegated him to the lower reaches of the scratch rankings at the halfway stage. However, after a relentless effort, the 2B-Yacco driver started a superb comeback and collected precious points in the Michelin Trophy and the Team Championship.
On fast roads, like those of the Lyon-Charbonnières, the Rallye des Vins du Mâcon offered a playing field more suited to the GT+ category drivers. For Tony Cosson, penalised by his unfamiliarity with the terrain, the main objective was to match the pace of Patrick Rouillard and Ludovic Gal. At the end of the first day, the contract was fully fulfilled for the n°20 crew who were 14th in the general ranking.
However, the La Chapelle / Brancion-Tournus special stage on Saturday morning changed the situation. In SS9, the Frenchman lost all hope of a result when he suffered a puncture on the right rear, causing him to lose control of his car and damaging several mechanical parts including the exhaust. Six minutes were lost in this mishap and a heavy intervention awaited the mechanics at the assistance. Once his Porsche 997 had been remarkably repaired, Tony Cosson set off again on the attack from 102nd place in the scratch race. Fast and steady, he finally finished the rally in 24th position, but not without having wet his wetsuit to make up for his considerable deficit.
In order to get the best possible start to the next rally, the Rouergue Aveyron Midi Pyrénées, Anthony Cosson will have a Bos engineer on board for the shakedown of this 5th round of the 2012 championship. The aim is to continue the development of his car, particularly on the suspension. The programme of this 39th edition of the Rouergue will take place over three days, from 6 to 8 July
